QCan `elif` be used on its own?
ANo. `elif` must immediately follow an `if`; it cannot stand alone, nor can it come right after `else`. Its full form is `if ... elif ... [else ...]`.
QWhat is the difference between `elif` and several independent `if` statements?
A`elif` only checks further when all earlier conditions were false, so the whole chain executes at most one branch. Several independent `if` statements each run their own test, so multiple branches may run. Use `elif` when the cases are mutually exclusive.
